A year ago February, it became perfectly clear to me that COVID was on the way. I also realized that the best hope for health was, as I put it then, a strong immune system. Two weeks later, a month before the shutdowns started, we went into our own isolation, shunning restaurants, stores, and all outside personal contact. Our employers graciously sent us, and most of our co-workers, home on paid absences for most of 2020. They made the strategic decision to keep their assets safe for the long term rather than risk losing us by attrition to disease in the short term. We have been very fortunate.
We remain healthy as rocks. Today, after going through perfectly ridiculous online gymnastics to get an appointment, I got my first of two shots. Denise is not far behind me.
I am not naturally an optimistic person. I prefer to think of myself as a stoic realist. It really is beginning to look like there is light at the end of the tunnel…..barring a really virulent COVID variant.
