Ok, so maybe it was a little tough getting out there yesterday. It was 17 F with a wind chill of 7 F. I was astonished at the major psychological effort it to start it and do 6 miles. 6 miles. I’ve had seasons since my return to running when, despite my rational thought processes, I thought that if the run was less than 6, it wasn’t even worth doing. Yesterday, it took every ounce of will that I had to just cobble together 6 miles. Thank god, it was a bright, sunny, albeit windy, day.

I came away amazed how quickly mental toughness erodes if it is not regularly used. I let 2021 slip by injured and feeling sorry for myself. Time to re-pay the running gods.

A good run before noon is a victory; it makes the day a victory.

Today, I head out again. It’s still bright and sunny. Today’s warmer: 27 F with a wind chill of 21 F. Much better in objective terms.

My mind is in a better place too. Time to once again assay life and see what I can come up with.
