Reuters reported on December 10 that of 43 of the cases of Omicron identified in the U.S., 34 of them were in fully vaccinated people, and a third of them have received a booster. Given that 59.7% of Americans are fully vaccinated and that roughly 10% of Americans have had the booster as of November 5, 2021, this is bad news. It looks like this variant has evolved a defeat for our vaccines. In 2020, when the news outlets first began reporting about asymptomatic transmission I remarked that this contagion was going to go through us all and the best defense we have is good health and strong immune systems. With Omicron, this is doubly true. Just because you don’t believe in evolution does not mean that it cannot make you very sick or kill you.
